Getting to the Start

CIM is run on a point-to-point course, which means that the starting line is 26.2 miles away from the finish point.

Take the Start Line Bus!
  • Both local and out-of-town runners are encouraged to take the bus that is provided as part of both the marathon and relay registration.
  • Parking at bus pick-up locations is not CIM specific, park at your own risk.
  • Buses leave pick-up locations: A, B, C, D, and E, at 5:00 a.m. on Sunday morning.
  • Buses leave pick-up locations: F and G, at 5:30 a.m. on Sunday morning.
  • Buses will stay at the start area and runners may stay on their buses until about 15 minutes before the start of the race.
  • There are no finish line buses that transport runners back to the start or back to their hotels after the race, unless you are a guest of the Folsom partner hotels. For more information about staying in Folsom and the Folsom hotels finish line buses Click HERE.

Sacramento Convention Center: J Street, between 13th St. and 14th St., south side, next to the Convention Center, Sacramento

Alternative Start Area Runner Drop Off Options:
  • Runners may have someone drive them to the runner drop-off locations near the start.
  • Give yourself plenty of time to get to the runner drop-off locations due to the inevitable traffic congestion.
  • Drivers:  Staying to watch the start is not recommended!  There is no non-official vehicle access to the start.
  • Shuttle buses will be running continuously from 5:00 a.m. to 6:45 a.m. from the two (2) shuttle locations.
  • Once the shuttle buses arrive at the start runners will be required to exit the shuttle bus.  Runners will not be allowed to stay on the shuttle buses.

Drop Off Locations:
Shuttle Location 1 – Vic’s
Oak Avenue and American River Canyon Drive
*Best for runners coming from the North, West and Hwy 80 corridor (Roseville, Citrus Heights, Orangevale, Fair Oaks, Rocklin, Auburn, etc.)

Shuttle Location 2 – McDonald’s
Greenback Lane and Folsom Boulevard
*Best for runners coming from the South, East and Hwy 50 corridor (Folsom, El Dorado Hills, Rancho Cordova, Sacramento, Elk Grove, etc.)

Runner Drop Location (RD) – Water Treatment Facility

  • At the Eureka Road and Auburn-Folsom Road intersection, a traffic control officer will confirm that your vehicle is taking runners to the start. Be ready to show bib numbers so you may quickly proceed through this check point.
  • Runner drop off is approximately 1/2 mile from the start on the north side access.
  • Cars are not allowed past the drop off, nor are they allowed to park there.
  • There is NO shuttle available at this drop location.
Getting to the Relay Exchanges:

Relay Leg 1

  • Relay runners should follow the same protocol as marathon runners for getting to the start.
  • Bus transportation from relay exchange zone 1 (end of leg 1) is available for all relay runners back to the marathon finish at the State Capitol.
  • There are no buses that transport runners back to the start or back to their hotels.

Relay Leg 2

  • Do not take the bus to the marathon start!
  • Relay runners are allowed to take the bus or may have someone drop them off at the relay exchange zone.
  • Bus transportation will ONLY be available from Pick-Up Location A (Sacramento Convention Center on 13th and J Streets).
  • Buses leave at 6:30 a.m.
  • Bus transportation from relay exchange zone 2 (end of leg 2) is available for all relay runners back to the marathon finish at the State Capitol.
  • There are no buses that transport runners back to the start of leg 2 or back to their hotels.

Relay Leg 3

  • Do not take the bus to the marathon start!
  • Relay runners are allowed to take the bus or may have someone drop them off at the relay exchange zone.
  • Bus transportation will ONLY be available from Pick-Up Location A (Sacramento Convention Center on 13th and J Streets).
  • Buses leave at 7:00 a.m.
  • Bus transportation from relay exchange zone 3 (end of leg 3) is available for all relay runners back to the marathon finish at the State Capitol.
  • There are no buses that transport runners back to the start of leg 3 or back to their hotels.
